A modern approach to the prevention
& treatment of child sexual abuse

In advanced nations it is increasingly recognized that most personal and social problems, including mental illness, substance abuse, violence and crime require a therapeutic approach for progress to be made in their remediation.

Such a therapeutic perspective places importance of a knowledge of the causes of community problems, and encourages the focusing of energy and resources on eradicating and treating the known causes. In combination, the above approaches are crucial for the task of prevention.

A number of Western Australian psychologists with experience in the criminal justice system and the child welfare field have been at the forefront of such developments in the assessment and treatment of social problems, particularly via the important roles of community education and treatment in reducing the incidence of the harmful problem of child sexual abuse. This Web page brings the results of that work to the community.

We invite you, the reader, to contribute to a safer community for children by reading the information contained in this website and sharing your understanding with your family and networks.
